Stainless Steel 316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel that typically contains around 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, with carbon capped at a maximum of 0.03%. The addition of molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, while the low carbon content improves weldability and reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion. Its mechanical properties are impressive, featuring a tensile strength of about 480–760 MPa, yield strength around 170–310 MPa, and an elongation of roughly 35–40%. SS 316L is known for its excellent toughness, corrosion resistance, and durability, especially in chloride and acidic environments.
