SMO 254 (UNS S31254) is a super austenitic stainless steel that contains about 19.5–20.5% chromium, 17.5–18.5% nickel, 6–6.5% molybdenum, and 0.18–0.22% nitrogen. This unique composition provides an incredibly high pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN > 42). Typical mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 650–850 MPa, yield strength around 300–400 MPa, and elongation of 35–40%. The alloy boasts excellent toughness, a high load-bearing capacity, and outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, especially in chloride-rich environments.
