ER385, which corresponds to UNS N08904 / 904L chemistry as deposited, is a high-nickel, copper-bearing super-austenitic filler. The typical deposited analysis includes: C ≈0.02, Cr ≈20–21%, Ni ≈24–26%, Mo ≈4.2–4.8%, Cu ≈1.2–1.6%, Mn ≈1–2.1% (with Fe as the balance); phosphorus and sulfur levels are tightly controlled. The mechanical properties after welding usually show tensile strength in the range of ~520–600 MPa and elongation around ~30–36% (depending on the process and heat input). The low carbon content and controlled impurities help minimize the risk of hot cracking, while the copper and molybdenum enhance resistance to acid and chloride attacks.
