Stainless Steel 316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel that typically contains around 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, with carbon kept to a maximum of 0.03% to avoid sensitization. This specific composition significantly boosts its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chemical attacks. The mechanical properties are impressive, featuring a tensile strength of about 480–760 MPa, yield strength around 170–310 MPa, and an elongation of roughly 35–40%. SS 316L is known for its excellent toughness, strong resistance to corrosion in chloride-rich environments, and stable mechanical performance during welding and fabrication.
