SMO 254 (UNS S31254) is a super austenitic stainless steel alloy that contains about 19.5–20.5% chromium, 17.5–18.5% nickel, 6–6.5% molybdenum, and 0.18–0.22% nitrogen. This advanced composition gives it an incredibly high pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN > 42). Typical mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 650 to 850 MPa, yield strength around 300 to 400 MPa, and an elongation of about 35 to 40%. The alloy also boasts excellent toughness, strong load-bearing capacity, and remarkable resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
