Stainless Steel 422 is a hardened martensitic stainless steel that contains around 11.5–13.5% chromium and 0.20–0.25% carbon, along with small amounts of molybdenum, nickel, and vanadium to enhance strength and creep resistance at high temperatures. After undergoing proper heat treatment, SS 422 typically boasts a tensile strength of about 850–1100 MPa, a yield strength of around 650–900 MPa, and an elongation of roughly 10–20%. It offers impressive hardness, good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, and superior resistance to creep and thermal fatigue compared to standard martensitic grades.
