Stainless Steel 201 is a low-nickel austenitic stainless steel primarily composed of chromium (16–18%), manganese (5.5–7.5%), and a lower nickel content (3.5–5.5%), with carbon levels typically under 0.15%. The increased manganese helps offset the lower nickel, providing excellent strength and formability. Its mechanical properties typically feature a tensile strength of 515–750 MPa, yield strength around 275–345 MPa, and elongation of 35–40%. While SS 201 is non-magnetic in its annealed state, it may exhibit slight magnetism after cold working.
