AWS Class E309/309H-16 rods are widely used on stainless steels. The filler metal composition can contain 22-25 percent chromium and 12-15 percent nickel which provides excellent resistance to corrosion; the mechanical properties include tensile strength in range of 70-90 ksi, and fairly good ductility and toughness. These electrodes are very versatile and are used for welding dissimilar metals, such as low-alloy steels to stainless steel. These have an excellent resistance to oxidation, weldability, and strength at high temperatures, which qualifies them for heavy-duty applications in petrochemical and aerospace industries.
